Sept. 30 - Outstanding In The Field



Even’ Star is accustomed to – and equipped for – public events. The house has a handicapped-accessible bathroom. Every Memorial Day the farm hosts a large party as a thank you to its many CSA customers. These celebrations include a full meal featuring farm products, prepared by Brett, Christine, Sherry and other friends. Brett guides tours of the farm, and paths allow visitors to walk through the forest unaccompanied. As many as 200-300 people attend each of these outdoor events. The farm roads provide ample space for parking. One of the largest events the farm hosted was for 350 people (as usual, the diverse meal was provided by Even’ Star) and was a celebration of the opening of the local public charter school.

Even’ Star Cooks
Along with partner, Sherry Jones, Christine and Brett have been known offer “Even’ Star Cooks” - a series of farm cooking classes demonstrating techniques and dishes showcasing foods from the farm. In addition, they periodical host a guest chef to prepare a dinner for customers using not only Even’ Star produce, but also other locally sourced foods.

Brett and Christine have also offered five-course farm dinners at silent auctions to benefit local charities. Recently, the farm teamed up with the Chesapeake Orchestra to host a classical guitar performance accompanied by farm-sourced food. The farm frequently donates to a local soup kitchen and hosts school tours – all in a constant effort to educate the broader public about the connection between loving stewardship of the land and its ecosystems - and good, healthy food.
